With a new government in power we saw a reduction of planning applications for new housing, almost immediately, with only 31, 533 applications made in the third quarter of last year. The figures are described as "alarming" by the Home Builders Federation. The country is thought to have a shortfall of about 1m homes but last year fewer were built than at any time since 1923.
