In the 1950s, a mathematician called John Von Neumann devised the "Theory of Games" in an attempt to effectively solve economic problems. However, he soon discovered this new tool provided a platform for tackling problems in a variety of other areas as well, including architecture and engineering.

According to Morton D. Davis’s book on Game Theory, ‘the theory of games is a theory of decision making. It considers how one should make decisions and, to a lesser extent, how one does make them. You make a number of decisions every day. Some involve deep thought, while others are almost automatic.’

At disPLAY it is our goal to understand these decisions, why we make them and to design accordingly. We continue to develop in-house analytical virtual games/environments, in an attempt to understand patterns and reasoning.
From this position, we are able to create architectural interventions that enable the physical environment to communicate with the user and vice versa, rather than structures which simply separate and exclude.
